Coffee Trucks
If
there is one thing I have said before it is worth repeating that I love the
options to get a great cup of coffee in the Albuquerque area. Whether it is a
brick-and-mortar shop or a traveling truck I will always want to stop and try
them or make a note of where they are to come back and try them. On some recent
explorations I was lucky enough to drive by two that I haven’t gotten to try
yet. After the caffeine buzz wore off from their delicious and unique
offerings, I knew I had to write about them.
Latte
Corazon: I had seen this small truck drive by me and had heard of them but
thankfully one day I was stuck at a red light and saw them parked. So, after
deciding to stop I really enjoyed my visit and was glad I made the detour. The
menu features all the classic coffee shop menu items, but also some so unique I
have never seen them before. The syrup flavors are very original and include
Mexican vanilla, pecan, and piloncillo in addition to signature drinks like
Dirty Horchata and cold brew tonic. I caught the seasonal menu on their window
and opted for the Sunny Honey which was a honey and orange latte. It was
slightly sweet, and very bright with citrus flavor which made for a refreshing,
delicious cup of coffee. There are also a small variety of pastries which
happen to be vegan, I had the cinnamon knot, which was light, flaky, and full
of great cinnamon/sugar flavor. This is a truck I would visit again without
hesitation. There are several more drinks I can’t wait to try, and I look
forward to seeing what their seasonal offerings are as they rotate. I found
them at the corner of Unser and Paseo del Norte, and thankfully they seem to be
there often. Whether driving by it or know where they are it is worth seeking
this truck out. Great coffee, and friendly service, you will not be
disappointed.
Catalyst
Coffee: To say that I had been trying to have Catalyst for a while now is
an understatement and has turned into a bit of a treasure hunt. But, when I saw
where he was open, I knew I had to go out of my way to try them, and I was glad
I did. The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming with a clear passion for
great coffee. Looking over the menu everything looked delicious, but one
signature item stuck out that I have not seen on any menu before, and that was the
nitro Maple Cold Brew. This was an incredibly balanced cup of coffee. The nitro
made it creamy, the coffee was smooth and full bodied, and the maple added the
perfect amount of sweetness, and a complex flavor was better than sugar. On a
hot day or any day for that matter this cup of coffee will hit the spot.
Another menu item I was intrigued by but will have to wait another time to try
is the vanilla lavender latte. While Catalyst can be hard to find they are
worth it when you do, so make sure to stop by and order a cup and pick up one
of his great stickers. Thankfully soon they will be expanding into a
brick-and-mortar so I will be able to have them anytime I want, and that can’t
come soon enough.
There
is something to be said about how many independent coffee shops exist in
Albuquerque and beyond. Coming from a place that was dominated by one chain to
have so many options here is still amazing to me. It is also one of my favorite
aspects of living here. No matter where I am driving, I know that a great cup
of coffee can be around any corner or parked along the side of the street. Time
to explore and find more.
