Coffee Roasters
As I
have said before if you want a good cup of coffee in New Mexico there is not a
lack of options to choose from. But as I continue to explore and try these
coffee shops there is one additional aspect of them, I continue to find. Not
only are these shops brewing up delicious cups of coffee, but they are also
roasting their own beans on sight. The result is not only a delicious, and
fresh cup of coffee, but also the ability to bring home some of the freshest
beans you can buy. Here are a couple of coffee roasters that are worth the
trip.
Rust is
Gold Coffee: Located on Eubank in Albuquerque Rust is Gold serves not only
delicious espresso drinks, roasts their own beans, but also has a cool
motorcycle theme on the inside. The environment on the inside is very spacious
and comfortable with tables for groups of all sizes, a small patio, and a couch
if you just want to hang out. Throughout there are motorcycles, as well as a
wall of vintage oil cans. But the highlight is a window that allows guests to
see the roaster in the back room. Environment aside, there is also a matter of
the coffee itself. To drink I went with one of their signature lattes and the
flavor was the Honey Lavender. This was a unique drink that balanced out the
sweetness from the honey, and the floral notes of the lavender. The bitterness
of the coffee complimented all flavors making for a good cup of coffee that I
would highly recommend. In addition, there are a variety of pastries to choose
from including some flavorful hand pies. To take home there are bags available
which are roasted weekly meaning guests are buying some of the freshest coffee
they will ever have. I really enjoyed the Columbian, which was not too acidic,
and had a subtle sweetness to it. While this was a bit of a drive for me to get
to it was well worth it, and one I would go to again for a latte, or a
bag.
Trifecta
Coffee: Located on Montano near Los Ranchos Trifecta is a coffee shop
unlike any other that I have been to. The coffee is roasted on site, the drinks
are delicious, but everything in this little coffee shop is made on site. That
includes the pastries, and the syrups/sauces that are used in their beverages.
The space itself is very comfortable with a small patio, and plenty of tables
on the inside. The first thing that caught my eye were the large baskets of
freshly roasted beans available for purchase that leads you to the counter.
Once at the counter I was overwhelmed by the number of options for both drink
and food. After some thought I settled on the CBH Latte (Caramel Butterscotch
Honey), and a Blackberry Chocolate Chip Scone. All I can say about both was
wow. I thought the latte was going to be sweet, but not at all. It was rich,
and the first time I have had butterscotch with coffee, but it will not be the
last. The scone was flaky, but not dry. The blackberry and chocolate add a
great richness as well as freshness and was delicious. On the way out I had to
get some coffee to go, and the variety was just as plentiful as everything else
in the shop. They had coffee from all over the world, and I went with one of my
all-time favorites, Sumatra. It’s one thing to buy fresh roasted coffee, but
it’s another thing to have it scooped and weighed right in front of you. This
is a place I will go to again without hesitation, as there were multiple menu
items I wanted to try.
There
is something to be said about the level of local businesses I have discovered
since living here, and the more of these businesses I visit the more spoiled I
feel I am. These two small businesses are doing everything great, and on site
while exhibiting great customer service. I am so glad that I found them on my
adventures and cannot wait to go back. I also can’t wait to find more like
them.
