More Food Trucks
The
last time I talked about food trucks it was about my experience with really
unique Indian food, and enjoying some classic burritos. But it has been way too
long since I have visited some, and talked about them. Thankfully I have
recently been able to try a couple new food trucks that offer delicious, and
very original menu items that can be found throughout the Albuquerque area.
Here are some thoughts of some new food trucks I have recently tried.
Stuffed
Lust: This is a great food truck that takes classic ingredients and
combines them with delicious sopapillas. The first time I tried them was at Ex
Novo, and it was worth every bite. The menu is way more than sopapillas, they
also offer a variety of tacos, nachos, and tostadas all featuring their great flavors.
The Original Gangster with pork is a must try, and obvious why it is the
signature dish of this truck. While they let you choose your meat I opted for
pork. The sopapilla was full of beans, and delicious braised pork. As if that
wasn’t enough it is then smothered with your choice of chile, I opted for red.
To say this was delicious is an understatement. The sopapilla was light and
perfectly fried, but the inside was packed full of delicious, braised pork that
was perfectly cooked. The chile on top made for a perfect bite and a great
dish. The food was well balanced, with just the right amount of spice, and
perfect to enjoy at any brewery. For larger groups though a must try are the
Jefe’s Nachos. Once again, I opted for pork expecting the same braised pork as
before, but instead I was surprised and delighted to find BBQ pulled pork. This
was a generous amount of food, and each bit was loaded with flavor. In addition
to all the cheese there was also sour cream, a red aioli which had a subtle
heat, and of all things pickles that added a great crunch and freshness to the
dish. These were unique nachos that I would order again in a heartbeat. This is
yet another food truck I was glad to of tried and will have again when I see
them parked.
Papa
Canos Pizza: What goes better with beer than pizza? Well, thankfully there is
a pizza truck that makes its rounds and can be found at local breweries. This
is not just a pizza truck though, but a wood fired pizza truck cooking up both
classical pizza flavors, as well as ones unique to New Mexico. All the pizzas
are twelve inches and are great for a crowd, or to spread over a couple meals
throughout the day. The menu all looked so delicious so making a decision on
what to try was a struggle, so naturally I opted for 2. The classic margherita
and the ABQ BBQ. Both pizzas were perfectly cooked, and had that delicious char
on the bottom crust which I love about wood fired pizza. The margherita was
light and very fresh. It had fresh slices of tomato on it added after the pizza
was cooked which I did not expect, but really enjoyed. All the flavors stood
out on their own, and it is a pizza I would order again. One the opposite side
of the spectrum was the ABQ BBQ which is their take on the iconic barbecue
chicken pizza, but it is a better version of the one most are familiar with.
While still very fresh tasting this pizza was on the more indulgent side. The
barbecue sauce base was sweet and tangy, the chicken was well seasoned and
cooked perfectly, and the red onions added freshness to cut through the
richness of the pizza. The cheese blend was tangy, and this pizza had a perfect
bite that I would have again. Of course, there are several other pizzas on
their menu that I would try as well. I was glad I decided to stop and have lunch
out of this truck and would highly recommend it when you see it.
With
two amazing food trucks like that two things are going to happen. The first is
that I cannot wait until I get to try these two again. The second is that all
it makes me want to do is go out, explore, and find even more food trucks to
try and share my thoughts on. Thankfully, both are going to happen.
