Tap N Taco

When I first made the decision to move down here there were several things I was excited about. But near the top of the list was food, and to be more specific the great Mexican food. So how lucky was I to discover a place in Rio Rancho that not only serves great tacos, but also quesadillas, and has a great bar on the inside serving specialty cocktails, and craft beer? The answer is very lucky, and with a great variety to choose from at very affordable prices one of the great taco places I’ve tried is Tap N Taco.

Located on Highway 528 in an old fast-food restaurant this place is worth seeking out. There is ample seating on the inside, as well as a beautiful outdoor patio with picnic tables for those beautiful New Mexico days. All the food is prepared right in front of you as you order, and the prices are all the same. $2.00 tacos, $6.00 quesadillas, and $7.00 baked potatoes/French fries. There are also five different proteins to choose from including al pastor, barbacoa, carne asada, chicken, and fish which is fried to order.

So, when you walk in and a greeted by the amazing aromas it is then time to decide what to get. Guests then grab a tray, order, and watch their food get prepared. I decided to try every protein on the menu. The carne asada I tried as a quesadilla, and the remaining proteins I had as street tacos. The tacos I had garnished as is. The fish taco had cabbage and a creamy chipotle sauce, and all other tacos had cilantro and onions. The only other exception was the al pastor which also had pineapple. In addition, there is a condiment bar featuring all sorts of salsas, a creamy chipotle sauce, and a creamy guac. Everything was very flavorful, and tasted very fresh. The carne asada quesadilla was my top choice, especially dipping it into the creamy chipotle sauce. The steak was tender, seasoned great, and the quesadilla was so cheesy. The fish taco was crunchy, flavorful, and very light. The Barbacoa was flavorful, and tender. I added pico de gallo to that taco. The chicken and al pastor were also very good. I would order any of these menu items again.

Not only are there great tacos here, but there is also a full bar. It’s in a separate area and does require a separate payment, but check it out. There is a good beer selection from all over New Mexico, as well as more mainstream beer choices. Also, there are cocktails and the house margarita on the rocks matched perfectly with tacos. Made fresh to order with a salt rimmed glass it was refreshing, and completed the meal. It goes without hesitation that this will be a place I frequent more than once, and would highly recommend. The wide variety ensures something for all guests, and the great flavors coming out of such a small place ensures guests will leave happy, and satisfied.
